I want to move to San Luis Obispo, CA, as soon as possible. How much money do I need?
I have done a lot of number crunching, and figured out that I would need to spend $8450.26 a year on rent, utilities, car insurance (assuming I have a car), and renters insurance. I’m not expecting to live luxuriously, or even comfortably. I just want the absolute minimum to be able to survive out there.
And before any lectures, I don’t plan on living like this forever. I just want to be able to move out there, find a job, and work full time.
The rent includes utilities in a house shared with two other people. Also, the weather in SLO is nice, so instead of a car, I figure I can bike (public transportation on rainy days) to work. Basically what I want to do is start all over again; sell everything I have now, and stop being so materialistic. I figure I can spend $50 on food a week if I’m frugal enough… Do I sound like a hippy? haha…
If you are serious about moving to SLO, the best thing to do is check out craigslist, careerbuilder, or similar site to review the job situation. Try and set up some interviews for when you get there.
It helps if you know someone you could stay with until you get on your feet. Moving into a new place involves a lot of set up costs, i.e. apartment deposit, utility setup, etc. If staying with friends or family isn’t an option, you will need to have enough money for your first few months, in case it takes you awhile to find a job.
Be positive, don’t give up, and if it’s what you really want, go for it!
I moved to the SF Bay about 7 months ago. It was a pretty quick decision, and a little scary, but I pulled it off. I was lucky enough to be able to stay with family, but it only took me a few months to be out on my own. It just takes will & a little sacrifice.
You might want to check craigslist for rooms & shared; if you are open to a roommate. The cost savings can help a lot, even if it is just temporary.

Can I stop an eviction?
I got into a car accident which caused me to incur a lot of expenses. My insurance is going to send me a reimbursement check but it has not gotten here yet. My apartment manager said they file all evictions on the twentieth of each month. I told her my next pay day isn’t until the 21st. I asked her if she could wait until then she said no. I talked to my insurance and they are planning to mail the check out on Monday which is the 17th; then I have to mail the check to my lean holder because they are going to put the check in my name and my lean holder’s name; about time I get the check back from my lean holder it will be after the twentieth as well. Is there anything I can do to stop my landlord from filing an eviction? Do they have to file an eviction by the twentieth or are they just being insensitive. I have paid my rent every single month; and what happens if they do file an eviction? I live in Muscogee County, Columbus GA.
Insensitive? You are trying to force them to loan you money, you are the insensitive one. How is you decided they would be OK not being paid so that you could buy something else?
Yes, they can file and obviously need to. You can come to court and ask to stay if you pay what you owe, which will be both rent and the eviction costs. They have to agree, but they likely will. This at least gets it recorded on your credit history.

Renters Insurance Scam
Renters Insurance Scam
Do you rent or own your home? And what is your opinion of this article: Buying a home is a ticket to financial?
security is a “scam” perpetrated on the American people by corporations seeking to keep us
in debt, less mobile and with the storage to purchase all sorts of
needless consumer goods.
There’s a lot of downsides and hidden
costs to home ownership that get lost in the “American Dream”
discussion:
* Insurance premium.
* Property taxes (which usually offset any tax deduction you get from your mortgage interest).
* Maintenance (pipes break, electricity problems, etc.).
* Remodeling costs.
* Utilities
(utilities and maintenance for renters is often reflected in the rental
price, but it’s not reflected in a mortgage when you own).
* Yard work, pest control, etc. (again, rents usually have this built into the price, but mortgages don’t).
* A down payment of at least 15%, which is $90,000 on a $600,000 home.
Closing costs, usually 5% of loan amount, or another $25,000.
First I didn’t understand the previous answer from the woman who wanted to own because she wanted privacy. You can rent a house too and have privacy. But to answer your question, I don’t think most people buy houses with an intent for financial gain. Owning a home IS expensive and so are repairs, etc. The people I know who own want their own place so that they don’t have to answer to anyone else about such things as choosing what color to paint their walls and all the other freedoms that come with it being your property so you can make choices without consulting with a landlord, etc.

5 Big Mistakes To Avoid When Moving
Moving home? Anxious about your moving day and how smoothly the process will go? Well the good thing is you don’t have to panic. Read on to discover the five most common mistakes people make when moving home – then vow you won’t do the same!
1. Not doing research
You’ve probably got a thousand things to do now you’ve decided to move home. But make sure you don’t neglect to spend time on good research into the best moving companies in Seattle, LA, or wherever you happen to be. Most people end up staying with the first service they contact. The reality is you could do yourself a great favor if you call around, make thorough enquiries and check important details to find out how trustworthy your service is. You might not just save money, you’ll end up with the best value for the service you need. Be cautious of scam movers who like to trick customers with appealingly low moving estimates – then will add extras on the day. And always be sure to check your moving company is licensed and insured.
2. Not planning well and planning ahead
Planning, coupled with good time management, is the key to a successful move. Pack well in advance – don’t leave it until the last moment. This will mean you have more time to pack your belongings with more care so they are not damaged while transported, and you can organize your boxes for easy sorting. It could also save you money as you can anticipate when your moving company is likely to require higher prices because of high demand – usually during the summer and the first and last weeks of the month when renters leave their residences.
3. Not being honest
Most respectable movers will create an estimate for you – but be sure to be upfront and honest with the company. Is your new home on a high floor apartment? Is your new street too narrow for a moving truck? Have you added additional items to your moving inventory and hope no-one notices? You’ll find yourself with additional costs on your moving day if you do not disclose things that will require your movers having to do extra work. Make sure your estimate is fair and accurate by being realistic about your moving needs.
4. Not checking and checking again
The inventory sheet that you sign will be documented proof of the items you have handed over to be moved. It’s important to spend time going over it and double-checking everything you need is present and included.
5. Not keeping hold of your most precious items
There are some items you won’t feel comfortable letting out of your sight. Pack a briefcase or box with valuables like passports, financial documents, jewelry, and laptops -all those items you feel are irreplaceable or you won’t want misplaced or damaged during the move. Then take them with you. This will give you extra peace of mind.
